Well, at least they would have passed the Old Grey Whistle Test.
The poor old MM would probably expire on the spot if it had to reproduce any of the modern stuff.
I wonder when Popular Music changed over from being 'Active' in the sense that you could sing along with it to the modern situation where it appears to be wholly 'Passive' where you can only listen - I hesitate to say enjoy. I reckon it started in the '70s.

I guess it started with the teen revolution when ever that was, my Mum always blamed the 60's my Gran blamed Glen Miller. I entered my teen years in 1962 I was mainly 60's influenced so far as British artists are concerned, my Dads favourite was Kathy Kirby...I wonder why.

Well if we're off the technicalites of the MM and onto songs you can sing along to, the 70s spawned a lot of songs you couldn’t help but sing along to. Especially memorable for me (not least because of the girl with the gap in her teeth, who I found quite appealing in a ‘not very pretty’ sort of way!), was ‘Mississippi’ by the Dutch band Pussycat. The band was driven by the three Kowalczyk sisters: Tonny, Betty and Marianne. Prior to forming the band, the sisters were telephone operators in Limburg. In 1975 they scored a big European hit with the song "Mississippi”. However they had to wait a further year for the single to make the British charts when it climbed to number one in the UK Singles Chart in October 1976. It's estimated that "Mississippi" sold over five million copies worldwide.

This version was recorded in 1991 - it's a bit more 'leggy' than the TOTP version. What's not to like?

I had to watch the video for a second time - I didn't see the car the first time - too distracted by leggy blondes! Even the second time around the car didn't get my undivided attention. As to getting old, as I watched the video, a strapline google ad came up inviting me to download an over 65s funeral plan. Strewth, is the Grim Reaper so close on my heels?

What a thread this has been - started 17 Oct 2011, more than 10,000 views and more than 200 posts - some of no relevance to the Pye MM, but all good fun. I'm sure Al will get the thread back on track by getting the MM working like a well oiled clock!
