Thanks Alan. I was left wondering.
Could you maybe disconnect the existing pot, cap, bias arrangement and jerry rig an outboard version that you could breadboard test with different components?
Just a thought!

Quick edit: The only other thing I can think of (in guitar amps) oscillation can sometimes be caused by lead dress.

I haven't decided how best to attack it yet.
Certainly the position and length of the wires between the Frame Aerial and the Tuning Box may be a factor.
The 'Spare Box' is a bit scruuffy internally although the Spindle and Tuning Cap are intact. I suspect as a first step I should give them a good soaking in Plusgas, and preferably warm them up in the house. However, I feel that may not be too popular.

I gave the 'Spare Box' a good soaking in Plusgas yesterday and left it in front of the Garage Fanheater. The roof didn't blow off
I had another look yesterday evening and the Wavechange switch turns OK, so I really have got a full set of spares.

I feel there are two obvious approaches:-
1. Change the whole box.
2. Just change the 'Volume' assembly.

The former has the advantage of also changing the coils and caps associated with the Reaction Circuit, but also other things, so it might generate more problems than it (potentially) fixes.

It was -5.5 over night and it's -2 now according to my Weather Station, so progress won't be brisk.

Hi,

This time last year Big Al you was planning the Brussels trip; my how time flies by when you are having fun.

This job has turned into a saga with no end in sight yet; I hope Joe doesn't end up bunging a transistor chassis into the cabinet?

It's so long ago that I restored one of these the only thing I remember is the many alloy castings. It's a set I would never volunteer to work on again so the very best of luck with it Alan; perhaps 2013 will see the chassis and cabinet re-united once again and in working order.
