Me neither.
I have been once, a couple of years ago, and was amazed at how many auction lots there were. Many were 'estate sales' on behalf of the estates of deceased collectors. Many weren't highly desirable, but went for very low prices - sometimes for £2.00, so the sum of the parts if broken down would be worth far more than that - even a speaker, knobs a valve or transformer for example. Many were eminently restorable. I thought the auction was very brisk and professional, as was the removal of sales lots etc, and Jeremy PPPPenguin was kept busy on the Bring & Buy. All in all, quite an undertaking! It's a long way to go if it can't be combined with something else. We make a point of going to Golborne to support a northern event, and combine it with a couple of nights B&B and pre-Christmas visit to friends and relatives in Liverpool and Birkenhead. We called in at Harpy en route to Essex to my wife's sister. I only saw one lot I was interested in - a pre-war Little Maestro, but it was lot 400 or so, and we weren't prepared to wait until late afternoon to bid for it. As it was, I later found that it went for more than I'd have been willing to bid, so it was no loss. David

I'm back. Went and got what I could. Auction prices were through the floor apart from a few items.
I got a Walter Tape Recorder with a good capstan, A Pilot radio and a set that isn't pre or post war. And I'm shattered... Cheers, Steve P.
If we've always had that, why is the car boot open? You aren't smuggling in another old TV are you...?

Errrm, 360 mile six-hour round trip? Shattered? Why am I not surprised!! (A bit of a dear do petrol/diesel wise too, so you need to bag a few bargains to make it worth the trip). Always nice to put a few names to faces as well, though few BWVS members including the 'hierarchy' seem to sport name badges. Stick a pin in Sheffield, and you've got a high population density of maybe a 5 million population within a 2-hr drive time from which to draw potential punters. South, North, West and East Yorks, North Notts and Derbys, East Mids, etc. Someone in East Hull organised an event a few years ago, but sadly it flopped. Stick a pin in Hull and draw a 2Hr radius - half of it is in the North Sea, a quarter on the south bank, most of the catchment area is low population density with more mangold wurzels than chimney pots:-/

Fair enough, Mark. I would have if and when any interest is expressed.
Cheers Joe |
