marantz cd400

i have a marantz cd player 400 series trouble is the display is now so dim its hard to read anyone any ideas?

Might not be the display at fault Rob. I seem to remember some of the VCR 'dim display' faults, were caused by a capacitor in the display circuitry.

yes i am hoping that its only a cap but a search on the internet surgest its a common failure te problem being that the display is left powered when swiched off ie itonly goes into stand by there is no mains switch.
the one i have has been modified by njoe tjoeb to incorperate a valve output stage and sounds fantastic so i woul like to cure this annoying fault

Quite often dim displays on VCRs and microwaves are due to electrolytics developing a high ESR. If you don't have any means of checking the ESR, it might be wise to change any electrolyics in the display module. (No good checking their capacitance with a capacitance meter, as they'll probably read fine).
