What is this IC?

I have a big bag of 8 pin DIL ICs
VIC-001-C
CS 8812 B

Never been able to find info.

I got them about 26 years ago and they might be for a SMPSU for a company that went bust in Limerick in late 1990s

8812 seems not impossible for a date code. Might be "ceramic" case.

Any ideas?

That's apparently a 64-pin LQFP package, so not it. Also these where offered to me in 1998 when the company I was working with was clearing out a place they were moving into. USB 2.0 was released in April 2000

I suspect VIC-001-C is a "house" code and 8812 might be 1988 week 12?

Thanks for looking. I'll not bin them yet just in case. The clear-out included a load of high power Schottky TO220 rectifiers, some small heatsinks and 22uF 35 V metal can tantalum caps, a vast quantity of 1/8th watt leaded resistors, but not many values, among other parts. Still using the 1k resistors, dual Schottky rectifiers and 22uF caps. And the unwanted big desk fan.

In another life I'd decap the thing & take a look at the die.

It might split at the lead frame. Looks like a sort of paler frit join there.

It is likely a SMPSU controller. An op-amp, comparator, prescaler, I2C Flash memory or dual opto-coupler, RF-IF amp or mixer seem less likely in terms of 8 pin DIL given the origin and other parts.

I suppose a single mosfet or dual mosfet driver is plausible

Stuck it in the vice, pins flattening to side and a tap knocked the top off

Oppo phone camera, x10 digital zoom and macro. I could do better with macro lens on the Canon EOS 70D, but shows it's not a dual driver, or power mosfet, or a Flash memory or dual opto-isolator?

I very much doubt that chip would be either ceramic or DIL, interesting though. The data sheet says SOP8, proven!

Yes, I think 8812 is most likely year and date.
It's certainly a ceramic two part package.
