I think the lessons learnt from this (as we probably know) is to carry enough cash to a)get home and b)get lunch. A few years ago we had a big power cut, Tesco and lots of shops couldn't work. The local "corner shops" merrily lit candles and took cash and covered the beer coolers with the out of hours blinds to keep them cool. L:ets not go completely cashless.

And you can put the new notes through the washing machine without damage or more likely soggy ones in my wallet during a rainy motorcycle ride. I have yet to find waterproof clothing for said task (or any other).
