Is it worth having a clone disk?

I make disk images to my NAS (server) using Maricum Reflect, you can restore the image on a new HDD with the same program on the same disk (I think it runs in RAM and then does the whole disk). Done it many times for new laptops/drives.

Good point about not having the backup disk plugged in all the time. I left it like that so as it would be connected for the weekly W10 scheduled backup. I will disconnect it until required and if the schedule is missed no harm. As Jeffrey said as long as you have your data you can always get the OP system back.

The Maricum software sounds very useful if doing sophisticated stuff using NAS drives and many PCs or laptops.

Maricum is also good for simple things like backing up to an external drive.

I use Grsync for backup in Linux. I think it's available for Windows. It's a GUI front end for the very flexible rsync package. All free and open source. Other GUI front ends available too.
