I bought one from Maplins....and took it back. No doubt they have got better, but UK cloud-cover in winter is limiting and the ignition switch problem is a pain.
The solution I adopted for my two cars is to fit them with home-made battery alarms (a single IC in a tiny box); when V falls to about 11.5V (they are adjustable), a piezo sounder goes off and I'm out with the charger. I think it is the least worst solution! Letting batteries go below ~10V is not at all good for them (and the security systems will do that nicely), so I'm happy to make the effort.
