Amongst the imports from the old Eastern European Communist countries the DDR imported Wartburgs. The new Knight as it was known was a new body shape for Wartburg with lot of features.
There was no monocoque body shell but a separate chassis. The car was FWD and had independent suspension all round with double wishbones and with semi trailing arms on the rear. In many respects it was far more advanced than the Escorts and Morris Minors on sale at the time, it's biggest let down was the two stroke engine but for 991cc 71 lb/ft torque was class leading at the time and even today good for a NASP engine, of course two strokes can be rather polluting and would never meet the required standards now.
None the less an interesting car with good spec and sound engineering.
