Someone remarked in a recent Post that they'd like to distribute Compressed air round the Garage/Workshop. Well, so would I, cause I'm sick of trailing Hoses. I've been threatening for some time so I thought I'd better get my arse in gear.
The first question was what to do it with. The obvious answer is Plastic Pneumatic Tube and Fittings. I've used them in anger before, but the Tube needs supporting, the Fittings are expensive and I'd still have to 'translate' the ends into 1/4" BSP for my preferred PCL Connectors.
The obvious answer is bog standard 15mm Copper. Various sources show the Bursting Pressure as around 60 Bar so it should stand my 6 OK. The only snag I hit was I couldn't find any fittings for the ends - I wanted 15mm End Feed to 1/4" BSP, either Male or Female. I could achieve the required result by using various Adaptors, but again that was getting expensive. In the end I decided to make some, like this:-
So, I bought a chunk of Hex Brass and set to doing a bit of Turning, Drilling and Tapping.
Then I soldered up a Few pieces of Tube and pressured it up just to prove it was OK.
All was well so I made a few more. I got 10 out of the 12" Bar so that made them around £1.30 Each.
To be continued, PDQ.
