I was recently asked 'can you do anything about the loud hum on this player?'(BTW this is a 50 year old valved model using the common UY85/UL84 circuit) Someone had at some time replaced the original 'unpolarised' mains lead with a modern THREE CORE one, and had connected the yellow/green wire(crudely)to the record deck metalwork, thus earthing the neutral line-hence the loud hum!
I guess most forum members would know better than to do this, but thought I'd post the above info.,if only to highlight the fact that 'A little knowledge is(can be) a dangerous thing!
