This approach, using the power of graphics cards, does seem to be the future of providing signals for obsolete standards. There now seems little point in designing stand-alone converters. Production of the existing Aurora and Hedghog designs is now hamstrung by lack of parts and/or low demand.
Looking further ahead, the use of composite 625 video will start to die out. At the moment there are plenty of boxes that will turn SDI, HDMI etc into composite video but even these won't be readily available in a few years time. Just as new Freeview boxes are now becoming a rarity.
