Hi.
Due to shifting in the hobby and wishing to fund a decent amateur radio transceiver I've sold my Hedghog PSC and a couple of TVs are for sale on ebay. This would of course leave me without a 405 line source for the remaining sets I have. A few years ago I read about generating obsolete line standards on a PC and I also Remember Kat Manton doing the Foth TV on Linux. So I gave myself a well earned boot up the backside when I sold my last converter. I purchased an ATI Radeon 2400 XT graphics card from ebay for 99p along with the splitter lead for two VGA monitors. I installed the card on my old Dell Optiplex 780 which is dual boot Linux and Windows 10. I downloaded Modeline editor from Jeroni Paul's Web site and copied and pasted in the 625 line modelines initially. I also made up the little interface and cut up a VGA lead and soldered the necessary RGB ground H&V syncs to the interface. Initially although it worked the results were grim only to discover the phono socket on the interface had a near short circuit. After fixing this I was rewarded with an excellent picture on my Sony TV9-90. I was using one of those little modulators from Amazon. Next was to load in the German 441 and UK 405 line modelines, both of these standards worked a treat, both UHF and VHF buttons out on the Sony gives 405 on UHF. The picture was stunning, incredibly sharp and I'd say the best 405 I have ever seen.
Since then I've repurposed the ITV channel 11 modulator and am outing on that channel to my 405 line sets with superb results.
Where I'm stuck though is the size of the display, the desktop is too big as is the likes of Google and YouTube, when you select a video on YouTube and go full screen it's actually just about spot on but in 16x9 or there abouts, I'm lost in how to sort this.
I'm sure it's fixable as others have, just I'm not a huge PC person, I was quite gobsmacked I even got it to work at all.
The rod pentode modulator will also give me band 1 so both bands can be used. In fact it might be possible to have both outputs from the card running 405 with say a test card on one output and a DVD playing or YouTube video on the other, so two sources of different material from one PC. Not bad that an older PC and a 99p card can give 405 of excellent quality.
There are a couple of videos on my channel the first is just a few minutes after getting it to work.
Looking for help regarding how to resize the desktop etc, Windows 10.
