Last night I got to a stage where I had added the EL84 and the transformer and powered it all up and managed to get the spot to scan the width of the tube. I can not tell if linear as with only one scan coil it is difficult to see, but a oscilloscope on the transformer was not nice with some massive fly-back voltages present, I could damp them a lot with resistors but think there must be a better way. I tried things like a 1N4007 and a resistor to damp the flyback pulse but think the diode may be too slow. The best results were with just a resistor across the scan coils, but I need help now in trying to figure a better way?
This is a basic diagram of the stage, still very free running at around 400 Hz and approx 0.22mS flyback, the transformer has an inductance of 1.4H.
It is also a bit loose as it hums.
Thoughts appreciated.
