Though modern plastics are much better, even when thinner, than waxed/oil/paraffin impregnated paper. I've wondered is plumber's PTFE tape better or worse than PVC tape or Polyester tape. I'd imagine polyester is more stable than PVC tape as it has plasticiser in it? Stripped VCR tape? :D
