My phone talks to me without any problems. My old Samsung S8 has a 5.9" screen which I can easily see in its cradle. I admit that if I didn't have varifocal glasses I wouldn't be able to use any satnav. My 65 year old eyes just don't have the acommodation. I've driven occasionally in a pair of single vision glasses, set up for distance vision, and even the speedometer is blurred.
An interesting review of stand alone satnav kit: https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/sat-nav/...tom-garmin
I don't think there are any serious alternatives to Garmin and Tomtom.
