Hi Mark don't get me wrong I don't blanket change either as that achieves nothing, and you learn nothing. I diagnose as I go too it's just that in all the TV's I've restored the HUNTS & waxies without exception have proved to be naff and it's confirmed when I test them subsequently on the bridge I'm quite anal about confirming it too.
Take the recent Fergy, frame collapse and other frame issues frame linearity etc all 6 caused by leakage, same with the GEC, however the RF stage all of the little peanut ceramics were fine I wonder If TV's are more harder on them and less forgiving than radios, I have a couple of 50's radio's and other than a replaced 'That cap' they are running on originals.
