They can be good or bad.
If its just a small one it won't be much good in cloudy weather or if its not in the direct path of the sun.
If its a big one it'll overcharge the battery in good sunlight if it's not got a regulator.
Why not get a smart charger like a CTEK as these can be permanently connected. Failing that disconnect the battery. OK clock, radio etc may need retuning of course.
