Thanks for the replies. I used some magic tape to hold the winding together; I always have some, as I use it for repairing books and drawings. I used a little hot glue from the glue gun and it worked very well. I did one corner at a time and clamped it with some tiny toolmakers clamps, which give a nice controllable, broad and parallel clamping action. I will give aprogress report!
