That media player is certainly compact.
I use a setup similar to yours. Instead of a media player I use a cheap free view box as mentioned in this thread.
I use it with a USB stick that I have movies etc. on.
I have had no problems like the picture displaying low on the screen but it is nearly exclusively mp4 and jpg files that I play.
I am not up to speed with modern tech either I just muddle through
