The diagram I found online was a little different, no doubt from a slightly later version. This doubler circuit is used in some amateur radio transceivers namely Trio Kenwood sets to get the required 800v anode potential.
This set is well thought out, the Video amp is also nicely designed.
Incidentally the tuner biscuits look identical to our Ekco types.
