Is it worth disconnecting the set's own EHT, insulating it and using a separate low current PSU? Or even running the set on your lab HT PSU so that no EHT is present.
I've got an old schools' EHT PSU, the sort that would have been used for lab demos. 0-5kV. I don't know how much current it can't supply, it's certainly not much, even though it's derived from a mains transformer.
