Hi Trevor,
Thanks for your reply and the advice which I will try. Most of those giving trouble are commercial pre-recorded tapes. I thought at first it was due to the amount of tape wound onto the drum inside the cassette and this might be the case with some of them but others with a lot of tape play OK.
