Citric acid can be purchased as a food ingredient, and is in the form of crystals. It can be used for heavy descaling of sinks kettles,washing machines and the like, its also supposedly an excellent germacide and anti viral...  Just rinse away when finished

Small point on citric acid: it's used as a drug cutting agent, so don't try to buy it from a chemist - they'll charge a lot, only sell you a small quantity at a time and make you sign a register to log the sale !!

As it's used in brewing and making elderflower cordial etc., you can buy it online in kilo packs for very little.

We buy 5 kilos at a time - it keeps well if kept dry.
