I have a copy of EKCO Sounds (Poole and Brown, Estuary publishing 2013).
Eric Cole started as an electrical contractor, working with his father, wiring houses and businesses for Southend's 230 volt DC supply.
He made and sold radios as what appears to have started as a lucrative hobby, until Marconi wrote to him in 1924 regarding their patents. After that he began making DC battery eliminators, then AC ones, then mains-powered radios. The Ekco company was incorporated in 1926.
Gus.
