I causes the phone to vibrate in a known pattern.
It requires some modified microwave detectors and a bluetooth module to be fitted to the crossing.
The detectors used can only see moving traffic so when there is no movement it sends a bluetooth message to the phone.
It has been in the evaluation stage for some time but its expensive to implement and IMHO not as safe as the indication given by a Traffic controller.
I have added a picture of the trial site but I don't think its going to be a product.
