Remember this is professional kit, made in tiny numbers compared to domestic TVs. There's also much less need to trim every last penny from the cost. PCBs will always be fibreglass, not phenolic and in theory all the components should be decently rated. It's not always as good as it should be. For example on all Prowest monitors the interconnections between PCBs are cheap and nasty.
I've been talking to Ed Dinning about transformer rewinds for 1950s TV cameras. Again this is high cost professional kit, made in small numbers. Unfortuantely the broadcast division of Pye (don't know about thier domestic sets) couldn't design or make mains transformers very well. So burnouts were routine, even when they were in service. By contrast Marconi broadcast kit of the same period has bombproof transformers, because they designed and made them properly.
