I disagree that random use of vintage kit is no good for everyday use.
It's down to how you make it safe. On a live chassis set you make safe by common sense. The back cover for example can be internally covered in nylon mesh as can the underside if its not solid. Grub screws can be changed to nylon screws or the holes filled with wax or hot melt. An earth fitted that has a neon to chassis so when it lights the operator is aware there is a fault, there are loads of things you can do for safety.
My everyday radio is a Chapman tuner and home made valve amp I have no issue with children around it. If you do things properly with due respect for safety aspects then sleep well. In fact some of the phone chargers from China are a total disgrace and in many cases I prefer what I know is good and safe to junk from Wish and Banggood.
