It seems no opinions are forthcoming. Am I the only one who has undertaken repairs for people who don't live locally to me. I first did so maybe more than 20 years ago when UKVRRR had a section in which members could advertise Repair Services, and, as I said earlier, I don't recall ever having any 'bounce' or get lost/damaged by the carriers. The only problem I can recall is that, years ago now, someone refused to pay me for repairing a Valved Car Radio, which I'd had for a while, tested carefully and returned to it's owner, whom I'd never met, but he may have been unfamiliar with valved gear, and expected it to come on instantly.
