Hi,
I'm new to this forum and to the hobby.
I've just acquired a DAC90A. The seller said it had worked when he put it away 10 years ago. A actually asked him not to plug it in, but communications were via his son, and when I arrived there was already a smell of burning in the kitchen and a hunt going on for a 13 amp fuse...
I've doe a bit of reading, so when I got it home I wasn't surprised to find a melted mains filter capacitor.
More worryingly, I find infinite resistance across the input winding of the audio transformer. This is using a cheap digital meter, on it's highest range - 20 KOhm.
Am I correct in thinking I am going to need a new audio transformer?
I have no way of testing the UL41. Will I endanger a replacement transformer by even trying it out?
I understand that the sequence is - broken down capacitor ('that capacitor' ) overloads the output valve and takes out the transformer, but I am not clear about if the change to the UL41 is permanent.
Furthermore, I assume that 'that capacitor' is C18 on both the Bush service instructions and trader sheet. Is that correct?
Lastly, CPC sell a range of audio output transformers.
