The exception to this is where they've been configured for continental CATV use, including a return path, as the diplex filter will cut off very sharply, immediately below Channel E2 (47 - 54MHz) so there will be no Channel 1. However, the filters, if still present, usually plug in and it should be a simple job to fit shorting links in place of both.
If the amp comes from a UK network, the cut-off may be at 50MHz, 85MHz or even higher!
