Why construction stopped there, I don't really know but, a few years ago, signs objecting to the A19 appeared all along the single carriageway N8 which connects Ieper to the A18/E40 motorway that runs up the coast from France.
I can't see, as it would be unlikely that the A19 extension would come anywhere near them, why so many people would object so vociferously to a scheme that would remove the HGV traffic which thunders through their towns and villages daily.
Then, just as suddenly as they'd appeared, the signs all vanished!
