As has happened several times before. TV Licencing have asked if I will comment on the number of B&W licences still in force. It's about 7000, down from about 8000 last year.
Since it's a fairly hot news day I don't think I'll be doing very much this year. So far it's just Radio Berkshire who want me at 0740 tomorrow down the line.
TV Licencing don't want me to say what is the obvious truth: That most of those 7000 actually have a colour set. They won't even tell me what is another obvious truth, that it's a policy decision not to pursue them. I presume that cost of doing so and the reputational damage would be too great for the million or so quid that it might raise.
