Definitely! I've had them fail in my 405 in order to demonstrate the crowbars across the output do actually work and prevented my speaker cones from ending up on the other side of the room

Replace them with 1W resistors.
On the 44 check the through hole links on the mother board. These feed power to the input selector board and if they go intermittent it can cause some interesting input selections.
