I've been waiting till I get more experienced before I get the 813's out of the box. Just building a PSU will be a challenge, I'll build as many safety features into it as poss. The other difficulty will be winding the OPT. It's pointless building a finished amplifier, the carbon footprint is unethical, so it will be just for kicks.
I will of coarse take great care, as you say these high voltage, high powered devices are potentially lethal. The big amp I built has over 1000u capacitor bank at 450v. It arced one day, scared the sh*t out of me. A valuable lesson, so I build a cap discharge function into the amps I muck about with; turning the power sw to off safely discharges the HV caps quickly.
Andy.
