Funds are always low. Here you can get car batteries at the scrapyard very cheap. Whereas the deep cycling domestic batteries are over 100 pounds. So, my best bet is to use a solar charge and be sensible with discharge. For now it looks like all the boat electrics for DC will be 1970's. I already fitted a plastic, electric tap with its "made in England" logo. The junction boxes are flashy with large plastic covers and came with the boat. All of it about 1971. The lights are tube type with a button switch at the ends. If all goes to plan I'll be living quite comfortably in what was once a listing wreck (I paid 35 quid for it in 2006). Once the water pump started to draw water into the boat I felt it was now far easier going. I have fun jobs ahead like the junction boxes and panel with switches. I dislike thee deluxe manufactured panels as I grew up in an era when boaters built wooden panels. They drilled holes for the ammeters and switches. Boating for me is about living in a real practical boat and not a palace. When I was a kid we holidayed in caravans that had no mod cons so to speak. So I will make a wooden panel and paint it. Also MCb's are required.
