Quite a lot I don't know about Ham. Here's a few comments: IF on the receiver I was going over is 1700 kilocycles. The use of crystals is standard and (something new) a so-called cold cathode regulator in the power stage.
I read some stuff on the BFO that frankly confused me. As I understand it at this point the BFO oscillator will be set 1000 cycles above the IF. The carrier is CW for the morse so just a continuous unmodulated wave with breaks (as dots and dashes). First time I looked at a 1960 kit radio I was puzzled by the BFO oscillator as it's shown apart.
I've never made or used a Ham set. The WWV broadcasts from Colorado is all new to me. The sets I looked at seem to allow for reception of code and WWV.
