Here are some finished photos. All that is needed now is to fit a new dial bulb, the voltage is 11.2v AC so I am looking for a 14 -18 volt 100mA bulb, I dont want it too bright, I think they look more natural with a warmer glow.
I have refitted a short length of the original cloth and rubber mains lead, after giving it a little wash to brighten it up. (and a good dry)
Did I mention that this radio has now had at least 2 capacitor changes, because there were still little curls of wire left from previous capacitors after I had removed the current ones..
One of the front knobs had a solid aluminium ring missing from a grove round the rim of the front face. The grove for the ring was about 3mm wide x 2 mm deep. I pondered with the idea of melting some solder into the grove, but in the end just opted to drizel some silver paint into the grove.
The speaker cloth has come up quite well with just a light brush and going over with the vacuum nozzle.
The radio, now it is all back in the cabinet has a wonderful quality to the audio, these war time sets were good.
The problem with the radio not being very sensitive was helped a good deal when I turned off my sons PSU for his 3D printer. It was chucking out so much hash on MW that the AGC was reducing the gain of the radio. The hash seemed to peak in the centre of MW.
I have been having these interference problems ever since he got the printer.
