Hi Mark, thanks for that information, I dont think I have ever come across that stuff before.
The original material would have been that translucent celluloid sheet, often used behind a dial with a couple of small bulbs to illuminate the dial.
What I have done seems strong enough, there is no sign of the holes I drilled giving or tearing with the pull of the cord and the tension spring.
