What we have to remember is that many of the authors of the books learned there trade by working with scientific instrument manufacturers.
The circuits in those books will cover things like small variations in things like Vbe caused by temperature and so on. This makes them into a very big distraction from learning about basic circuits unless you want to make a thermometer with a transistor as a sensor.
