I think this thread is morphing into low spec older hardware. I am using daily a Panasonic cf27 laptop. I have several hard drives I can use with it as the HDD sits in a caddy that is easily swapped. It has a Pentium m CPU @ 300mhz and 300 mb ram. Wifi via a pcmcia card. I have tried dozens and dozens of operating systems and the best by a long shot is Slitaz 3 Linux which is happy on a 4 GB hard disc taking up a fraction of space. I am busy transcribing the letters my grandfather wrote home in WW1 using this machine. Although I have other modern well specified machines I enjoy trying to get the best out of this Panasonic and it has a proper clunky keyboard I like and being passively cooled is silent. This is a military spec laptop and is literally built like a tank. The battery will still run it for 2+ hours.
