Nov 2nd What TV will you use?

Just had a thought, probably a silly question but, did anyone actually have a TV in their homes the day the first transmission was made.
I am not sure I would have gone out to buy a TV on the speculation that they would start transmissions.
Or was it not like that and other people were transmitting before the BBC started.
