I'd love to get my basic licence but the procedure seems to be very, "Hodge-podge" from what I've encountered.
My local Ham club emailed me back saying that I can do my basic licence there, however seemed to indicate that I had to buy a pile of books through them. Also getting times for the exams etc seemed like a nightmare, was impossible to pin one down less than a month in advance.
One daunting aspect of it is the whole morse code thing, I understand there have been arguments that it is no longer valid in todays society and that they were going to drop it from the tests, however even though I struggle with it, I'd beg to differ and say that it's the very essence of amateur radio.
I'd love to get involved (as would my wife) but I just don't have the time to wade through this minefield at the moment!
