It's only good for testing valves.
Most Valve testers have no active devices beyond a rectifier for the meter.
The famous AVO VCM163 uses transistors. Possibly the best conventional tester. It can be used to produce curves due to the flexibility. I borrowed one and was able to test unlisted types such as Rod Pentodes on it and then plot the results with Excel, though graph paper and slide rule would have done as well.
