This is my first post here - I'm already on my soapbox! This is to do with quoting power in RMS watts (Maplin in this case), which is what many, or most manufacturers do. There is no such thing as an RMS watt.
Well strictly there is, in that you can write down the equation and solve it - and end up with a physically nonsensical unit. The only watt that is of relevance is *average* power. The thing that flummoxes the marketers is that voltages and currents are measured in RMS. But the RMS current times the RMS voltage is equal to the *average* power.
Quad got that right back in the days of the 303. They simply quoted Watts, and even provided a set of graphs with voltage and current limit lines for the cases of resistive, 45 degrees out of phase, and 90 degrees perfectly reactive load.
