I discovered earlier that that rough-and-ready thing of mine works very nicely if its aerial wire is plugged into a receiver's socket so, presumably, if this were placed in a metal box and screened cable used this would count as a modulator rather than a transmitter.
Would there be any way of using such things with sets that don't have an aerial socket? I was dealing with a Vidor CN431 recently which had NO external connections at all. There are also plenty of more modern things having neither Gram/Aux/Line-In sockets or AM aerial ones. In these cases would fitting one be practical?
