Thanks for the link, Joe. What an interesting presentation! To my mind, one of Baird's most important contributions to domestic television was whetting appetite and interest of the public so that the stuffy BBC had to eventually open a 30 line service using the infrastructure that was available at the time. I think that it was solely due to that that got EMI (via Schoenberg) to spend money on developing the 405 line system.
As an aside, I have a 1/4" tape recording od an original Phonovision disk - a friend of mine bought a load of 78s in a London junk shop many years ago and found 2 of the disks in the pile. These eventually ended up with Don McLean. One day, I will build a Televisior simulator!
