Foxhole radios were used in Italy. For a while, the only reference was in a 1950s book by Jack Gould, and there was a suspicion the whole thing was made up, but somebody found a note in QST in (I think) 1945, so there is some historical basis. A google search would probably turn up the appropriate references.
I actually owned a copy of that book as a kid "All About Radio and Television" and it's still here somewhere.
GIs had radios but not for broadcast reception or entertainment.
