Then it all became clear
I have to say that I agree with him. Having bought Washing Machines these last 35 years or so there doesn't seem to be much in it. In fact I'd go so far as to say that the oldest ones were more reliable and long-lived.
I think our best one was a Hotpoint Washer/Dryer. It's only shortcoming was that it had an LCD which clearly wasn't well enough protected. They changed it annually until they got fed up and gave us a newer model without an LCD.
