Thanks! I've tried it on another machine, and I am now seeing the problems you are reporting.
The machine I tried earlier is a Ubuntu machine (version 10.04 or 10.10) running Firefox. But that version of FF is quite old - version 20 or similar.
Having got home, I've tried a newer Ubuntu build (14.04) with the latest FF build, and it's behaving as yours. And an XP box, also with the latest version of FF is the same.
Hmm - need to think about this. But it'll be that Exif data.
I vaguely remember having this problem on another forum many years ago - IIRC, it was an image that was the wrong orientation from the camera (occasionally the orientation sense in the camera stuck), so was rotated to fix. But under the version of Linux I was running, the image rotate facility just changed the Exif data so that applications would display the image correctly, but that was no good for that forum. Conversely, it appears that if you rotate the image in XP, the JPEG is recreated with the data in the "right order" - takes a tad longer to do, but will always display correctly. I believe that Vista (and newer) changes the Exif data when you rotate.
As for logging in in different browsers, that is not a problem, and not surprising. When you log in, a cookie is created by the browser and stored in its "ecosystem". At some point in the past, you will have logged in with both. Having done that, the cookie will indicate to the server that you have a validated session with the forum software. You can make a request from either browser, and the software will simply server up the page requested - it doesn't discriminate between different sessions. Between all my computers at home and at work, I must have half a dozen on the go!
